Team 7-Eleven Philippines Ready for the Ho Chi Minh City Intl Marathon in Vietnam

After two years of being relegated to a virtual race format due to the pandemic, the 7-Eleven Run Series had its much-awaited big comeback via the in-person/physical race format last September 25, 2022, at the Filinvest City in Alabang and in Cebu Business Park and SM City Davao for the Cebu and Davao legs, respectively.

This 2022 race series was very much anticipated by both recreational and competitive runners because apart from providing a very challenging but well-organized run, 7-Eleven Philippines, the run series’ prime mover, and with the support of their various sponsors has always prepared awesome post-run treats for everybody.

Out of the total 35,000 participants for all three legs, the top overall Filipino male and female runners from the 42k, 32km, and 21km categories will be given a chance to compete in an international race event. This year, the race will be the 5th Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Seeing action this December 11, 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City are the following qualifiers:

Out of the 16 qualifiers, six are having their international race debut courtesy of 7-Eleven Philippines. Those who qualified for the first time are Florencio Lapiz ( 42km, 3rd overall male), Arlan Arbois and Jerome Casinillo (32km, 1st and 2nd overall, respectively) Rosalyn Tadias and Stephanie Cadosale (32km, 2nd and 3rd overall female, respectively), and Roy Laudit (21km, 3rd overall male).

Since its inception last 2013, The Run 7-Eleven Series became a channel for Filipino elite runners to show their skills and talent as runners and prove that they have what it takes to compete with runners from all over the world through an international race. The delegation will travel and compete, all expenses paid for, with pocket money, and their needs are taken care of. Apart from this, runners who successfully finish in any of the top three overall spots in their respective category will not only bring home the race prizes but also receive a bonus cash prize from 7-Eleven Philippines.

This is the first time that Philippine Seven Corporation will be sending a Team 7-Eleven Philippines delegation to an international race again after taking a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.” 7-Eleven Philippines will continue with its grass-roots program to nurture and support our Filipino runners who aspire to get the chance to represent the country in an international race,” shared 7-Eleven General Merchandise Division Head and Managing Director for Digital, Mr. Jose C. Ang Jr.

The delegation, composed of the 16 Filipino elite runners together with executives from Philippine Seven Corporation, is scheduled to leave for Vietnam on Friday, December 9, 2022. This gives the runners enough time to get settled and prepare for the race on Sunday, December 11, 2022.

Run Ortigas 2022

Since the start of the pandemic, it is only this year that running events are coming alive again. Run Ortigas 2022 is actually my 3rd running event for this year.

Just like every event, I barely slept the night before. I signed up last minute and went for the 16km distance as part of my Tokyo Marathon 2023 training. At 4:30AM we were off!

This is actually my first time running around the Ortigas area. Being familiar with the terrain, I know that it would be a climb along Julia Vargas and St. Paul. I didn’t have expectations as well in terms of finish time but just complete my target mileage and finish before the cut-off time.

Kudos to race owner Ortigas and Co. Ltd Partnership and race organizer RunRio staging such a well-organized event. There were plenty of marshals to keep the race route safe and guided the runners especially in the loops inside Ortigas Business District. Water stations have sufficient water and Gatorade but too bad I didn’t get the memo on bringing your own bottle.

Challenging route, cool weather and great friends. Looking forward to next year’s Run Ortigas edition!

7-Eleven Run Series is back!

After two years of running virtually, the 7-Eleven Run Series is finally back on the road.

The leading convenience store is bringing back the fun and thrill of running together with its 10th installment and 5th simultaneous event in Manila, Cebu, and Davao. To celebrate the grand comeback of the two-day physical event from September 24 to 25, 7-Eleven is preparing exciting cash prizes, major freebies from sponsor brands, and a chance to run in an international competition.

There are nine (9) distance categories to choose from: 3KM, 5KM, 5KM Buddy, 10KM, 10KM Buddy, 16KM, 21KM, 32KM, and 42KM, with medals and cash prizes ranging from P2,000 to P25,000. The top three (3) overall male and female Filipino winners from the 21KM, 32KM, and 42KM will get a chance to run and represent the country in an international marathon competition.

Participants can do a quick grocery run with the amount of freebies they can grab from over 30 sampling booths courtesy of 7-Eleven’s brand partners. On the two-day simultaneous event, specifically in Filinvest, Alabang for the Manila leg, Cebu Business Park, Ayala Center for the Cebu leg, and SM City Davao Ecoland, Davao City for the Davao leg, partner brands will offer their favorite snacks, drinks, daily essentials, and more for FREE.

Participants can register to join for FREE by collecting 15 e-stamps through the CLiQQ App to redeem one (1) registration code for their chosen category. 30 e-stamps are required to redeem a registration code for each buddy run category.

A P100 minimum purchase of participating items is needed to get one (1) e-stamp. This also entitles the customer to one (1) e-raffle entry per e-stamp, for a chance to be one of the 3,000 winners of products from the run’s major sponsors. This includes freebies from Cornetto, Pocari Sweat, Kopiko Lucky Day, Nature’s Spring, Gatorade, Summit, Del Monte Fit N Right, Le Minerale, Cali, C2, Coca-Cola, Absolute, Nova, Pepsi, Re Fresh, Cobra, Mountain Dew, Wilkins, Nutri Boost, and Selecta.

Participants can also opt to register by paying the corresponding fee per run category starting at P500 each. Once paid or the required number of e-stamps are collected, the participant can claim their Race Kit at their chosen 7-Eleven store.

Registration period is until September 13 only. It doesn’t matter if one is a newbie, a pro runner, or just joining for fun alone, with a friend, or a group, everyone’s welcome to join and run as one community.

Run to the nearest 7-Eleven store or register online at www.run711.com to join!

Chicago Marathon 2015

This is really a super late post.

The Expo

The expo was held at Chicago’s McCormick Place. As with other races I’ve joined in the US, there were a lot of exhibitors and free items. The really cool thing in the expo is the electronic board where you can have your picture taken with your name and the hastag #OWNCHICAGO.

I went home with a bag full of energy gels and bars, new pair of Thorlos Xperia socks and bunch of photos.

Getting to the Starting Line

Since I was staying at Bryan’s place in Lisle, we have to wake up early and take the 5AM train to downtown Chicago. It was really cold that morning but the weather forecast last night that it was going to be hot. I just couldn’t related the word “hot” with Chicago fall weather. Anyway, when we boarded the train I felt a sense of marathon excitement as the train was full of runners and their supporters. Despite being early, everyone was in a good mood and eagerly anticipating the day.

Before Gun Start

I was wearing my Run United Marathon 2015 singlet and it acted like a magnet as I walked around the corral, Filipino runners would say hi and ask me if I am based in the US or in the Philippines. I did even met runners wearing Greenhills Running club shirts. I imagined there must be a lot of Filipinos running that day.

The Marathon

At the starting line, I positioned myself behind the 5:25 pace group. Not because I was targeting sub-5:30 but because I wanted to start the first half strong so that if need be I can walk the second half. You see I wasn’t able to prepare for this marathon as much as I wanted to. I blame it to a new project I’m handling plus adding the factor that I started working the graveyard shift a month before this marathon.

10462826_10208051224225227_2405086286961418377_n.jpg

Half way through, I managed to clocked 2:49. Not bad for somebody whose longest run was only 21K. But then, the heat (it was already around 80F) and lack of training started to take its toll on me. By kilometer 30, I couldn’t keep up anymore with the 5:25 pace group and I started to take walking breaks. To make the long story short, I finished with a time of 6:33. Not my worst marathon time but definitely something to be proud of considering the circumstances I’ve faced.

Century Tuna Inaugural Ironman 70.3 Triathlon

Century Tuna stages its inaugural half-Ironman distance (Ironman 70.3) on March 8, 2015 after 3 years of supporting the 5150 Triathlon and Subic Bay will be the event venue. Subic Bay has been chosen as the venue for its calm waters and well maintained but challenging bike and run routes.

The course includes a 1.9 kilometer swim, 90 kilometer bike ride which will include portions of SCTEX and 21 kilometer run to the finish line. I’ve already experienced biking on SCTEX and I could attest that it will be tough because of elevation and inclines.

Over 20 professionals of various nationalities are expected to arrive headed by three-time Ironman World Champion and two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion Craig Alexander. Other professionals that would be gracing the event includes Luke Mackenzie and Caroline Steffen.

Here are some photos of the media launch event held at the New World Hotel Makati:

Official Press Release

7-Eleven will be holding RUN 1500 this coming March 15, 2015, the latest installation to its successful Run series.

The first ever 7-Eleven fun run, RUN 800, was held last 2012, and attracted over 10,000 participants. It was then followed by RUN 1000 and attracted close to 18,000 runners and was the largest paid race in the country in 2014. Traditionally, the 7-Eleven Run Series is also held to celebrate store opening milestones: RUN 800 to celebrate 800 stores in the Philippines, RUN 1000 to celebrate 1000 stores and this year, RUN 1500 in anticipation of opening its 1,500th store in the country.

What’s New?

RUN 1500 promises to be bigger and better, featuring new categories as well as new venue partners, Skyway and Filinvest City.

Now a full marathon, the race now includes a 42KM category, a 10KM buddy run and a 500M fun run for kids. Runners joining the 10KM, 16KM, 21KM, 42KM categories and 10KM Buddy Run will enjoy the course set along the Skyway. Those joining the 500M, 3KM and 5KM categories can look forward to an organized race course in Filinvest City.

What to Expect?

People can enjoy a fun, organized race made more convenient with 7-Eleven’s system. Runners can easily register online and pay at the nearest 7-Eleven store and claim their race kits there.

The registration system also allows participants to choose their wave starts to allow them to run with those of the same skill or speed, or with friends or family.

Race Category Fees
500M Kids P400
3KM P500
5KM P600
10KM P700
10KM Buddy Run P500 each
21KM P1,000
42KM P1,500

Race Categories, Fees and Inclusions

All finishers in each category will receive finisher shirts and medals. Top 3 for each category will also receive cash prize.

Another tradition in the 7-Eleven Run Series is to give Filipino runners opportunities to be more competitive. Each Run, 7-Eleven sends top Filipino placers of the 21K category to represent 7-Eleven Philippines and compete in an international marathon, all expenses paid.

7-Eleven Run Series winners have been sent to the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in Cambodia and Seoul Race in South Korea where Pinoy pride was well represented. Following in the footsteps of Janette Agura (2nd place winner in Angkor Wat), were our RUN 1000 delegates who dominated the Seoul Race last 2014. Mary Joy Tabal, won 1st  place in the women’s 21KM, while Mario Maglinao and Elmer Sabal won 1st and 3rd place, respectively for the men’s category.

This year, 7-Eleven will be sponsoring the top 3 Filipino males and females of 21KM and 42KM to join the Laguna Phuket International Marathon in Thailand.

Rexona Run 2014 – Run To Your Beat

RTYB png

I had a blast running inside the laser light tunnel with matching live party music in last year’s Rexona Run. This year, Rexona is bringing back the party atmosphere in running with this year’s edition of the Run To Your Beat. Instead of one, Rexona is introducing three tunnels with varying themes – Retro, HipHop and EDM. 5K and 10K runners will go through two tunnels while 21K runners will experience all three.
